ZITA CARVALHOSA

Has been running the production company Superfilmes since 1983. Working with a new generation of Brazilian filmmakers, has produced more than 20 films, including independent features, documentaries and short films awarded in Brazil and abroad. Among them: Obra by Gregório Graziosi), A Casa de Alice (Alice’s House), by Chico Teixeira , Um Homem de Moral ( A Man of Moral), by Ricardo Dias; A Margem do Concreto (On the Fringes of São Paulo: Squatting), by Evaldo Mocarzel; Como Fazer Um Filme De Amor (Manual for Love Stories), by José Roberto Torero; Urbânia (Return), by Flávio Frederico; Tônica Dominante, by Lina Chamie; No Rio das Amazonas (On The River of the Amazons), by Ricardo Dias; Capitalismo Selvagem (Savage Capitalism), by André Klotzel; Anjos Da Noite (Nigth Angels), by Wilson Barros and the TV series O Povo Brasileiro (Brazilian People), that won the prize for Best Cultural Production for TV at the Grande Prêmio Cinema Brasil 2001.

 

She is also the founder and director of the Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival, in its 28th edition in August 2017. As a film curator, Zita started her career at the Museum of Image and Sound of Sao Paulo (from 1988 to 1995), where she developed a program dedicated to promote shorts and new Brazilian films. In 1995, she created with film colleagues the Associação Cultural Kinoforum and took over the executive coordination in this non-profit association, responsible for running the Sao Paulo Short Film festival, the Kinoforum Video Workshops and other activities for the promotion of Brazilian Cinema.
